Joanna & Shane’s Wedding At The Royal Valentia

Joanna & Shane’s Summer Wedding on Valentia Island: A Hidden Gem with All the Magic of Kerry

Oanna and Shane did what many Dubliners only dream of – they ditched the city hustle for the quiet, windswept shores of Valentia Island for their wedding day, and I was lucky enough to be there to capture it all. They chose the beautiful Royal Valentia as their venue, which is basically a postcard of Irish charm and beauty, right on our own doorstep in County Kerry.

Now, for those who haven’t yet had the joy of venturing to Valentia, this little island is a treasure chest of everything rugged, scenic, and utterly Irish. Picture cliffs that look like they were pulled straight from a Viking epic, fields that stretch on forever, and the Skellig Islands casually photobombing in the background like they just had to join the party. It’s an absolute dream – or as we’d say here, “It’s only gorgeous!”

I’m convinced that Valentia Island has a little magic all its own. If you squint hard enough, you might even catch a few leprechauns whispering tips on the best shot angles. For a photographer, it’s a place that ticks every box, fills every pint glass, and then goes above and beyond. Let’s just say if scenic views could enter beauty pageants, Valentia would be crowned Miss Universe.

We had ourselves a proper Irish wedding day, too. A sprinkle of sunshine, a gentle breeze (that occasionally turned into a “hold onto your hat” gust), and a whole lot of laughs. I don’t know if it’s the Kerry air or the pints of Guinness, but there was something special in the atmosphere that day. Oanna and Shane’s friends and family brought the craic in full force – if the Guinness didn’t settle in the stomach, the dancing surely did!

Below on the blog, you’ll find a taste of what I captured on this fantastic day. Each photo tells a bit of the story, from quiet, heartfelt moments to wild and joyful celebrations. So, take a peek – and if you’re ever near Valentia, do yourself a favor and visit. It’s a hidden gem, sure, but that’s just how we like it down here in Kerry – a place where the mountains, cliffs, and ancient stones do half the talking for you.
